The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the
American College of Surgeons has granted its
Outstanding Achievement Award to Genesis
HealthCare System as a result of surveys
performed during 2010. Genesis is one of a
select group of 90 currently accredited and
newly accredited cancer programs across the
United States. Established in 2004, the CoC
Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) is
designed to recognize cancer programs that
strive for excellence in providing quality
care to cancer patients. The award is
granted to facilities that demonstrate a
Commendation level of compliance with seven
standards that represent six areas of cancer
program activity: cancer committee
leadership, cancer data management, clinical
management, research, community outreach,
and quality improvement. The level of
compliance with the seven standards is
determined during an on-site evaluation by a
physician surveyor.
Ninety programs, including Genesis, received
the OAA as a result of surveys performed in
2010.

Save
on Workers Comp
Workers comp costs got you down? If so here
are two really good ways to save on your
workers comp premiums - as much as 6% off
what you pay now.
The first is by joining the local Safety
Council. Members of Safety Council, which
is sponsored by the BWC Division of Safety &
Hygiene and organized locally by the
chamber, earn up to 4% off their premiums by
attending the council's monthly meeting and
meeting the other eligibility requirements
which are described in detail here. The
BWC just this week approved making it
possible to receive both the group rating
premium discount and a partial Safety
Council rebate at the same time, so be aware
of this important change.
The new year for Safety Council begins July
1 and new members must join by July 31 to be
eligible for the 4% rebate during this
fiscal year so act now if this is something
you want to pursue. Contact Joy Riddle at
the Chamber at
jriddle@zmchamber.com for a membership
application.
A second way to save is by participating in
group rating. Participants in the Chamber's
group rating program are currently saving
over $2,000 on average per company, and one
employer alone saved over $33,000.
Premium savings estimates will be provided
between now and February for the workers
comp year that begins July of 2012.
For a no-cost, no-obligation premium savings
estimate,
go to this link and complete the simple
form requesting an estimate. CareWorks
Consultants Inc, our group's third party
administrator, will provide the savings
estimates beginning in November. Then you
can decide if being in a group will save you
money on your premiums.
Use
Our Member Logo
Here's a new Chamber logo that states
clearly your chamber affiliation, and we
hope you will use it on your emails,
websites, publications and other
communications materials. Why? Because
it's been proven by a national study that
when customers know your business is a
chamber of commerce member they are 63% more
likely to do business with you, and 7 out of
10 people see chamber membership as a
commitment to good business practices. When
customers see the Chamber logo on your
materials it sends a message about your
credibility, professionalism, and commitment
to the growth of the community. So, use
this new logo to tout your connection to our
Chamber of Commerce and let us help you
promote your business!

Muskingum
Recreation Center Project Moves Forward
The Muskingum Recreation Center (MRC), an
aquatic/recreation facility being planned
for the Zanesville/Muskingum County
community, is one step closer to reality
with the selection of an architectural
design firm. The Muskingum County Recreation
Center Board of Trustees is pleased to
announce that the firm of Williams
Architects from Carol Stream, Illinois, will
design the aquatic/recreation center.
MRC Board president, Jim Fonseca, stated,
"Because of the unique circumstances
involved with a facility that includes both
dry and wet-side components, it is important
to engage a firm that has a great deal of
experience with this type of facility as
well as a keen knowledge of current trends
and innovations. Williams has designed
similar facilities all over the country and
comes to our project highly recommended."
The Muskingum Recreation Center, a
partnership of Genesis HealthCare System,
Ohio University Zanesville, the Muskingum
Family Y and the Muskingum County Community
Foundation, will include fitness, education
and exercise areas, a two-court gymnasium,
an eight-lane 25-yard lap pool, a family
leisure/therapy pool, racquet ball courts,
locker rooms, multi-use programming rooms,
childcare center, and indoor track. The
facility will be constructed on the OU
Zanesville campus adjacent to the Littick
Hall Gymnasium.
The design process is likely to take most of
the summer and will include community
information sessions. Once construction
begins the project will take about 18 months
to complete. David Mitzel from the Muskingum
County Community Foundation said, "The MRC
capital campaign has been extremely
successful which has allowed the project to
move forward with hiring the design firm."
He expects to make an exciting announcement
about the campaign by the end of June.
For more information about the Muskingum
Recreation Center project, contact Cindy
Linn, assistant dean for development at Ohio
University Zanesville, at 740-588-1547 or
via email at
