Chamber Annual Meeting - "Spring Break" Event - This Week!

The Chamber's annual membership meeting is a little unorthodox.  While many chambers of commerce have traditional, conservative banquets, we try to offer something a little more relaxing and a lot more entertaining.  It's called Spring Break, and while it is still our annnual meeting it is very casual in both attitude and attire, and its being held this Friday on March 19 from 7 am to 9 am at Hallowed Hills.  We use this event to celebrate our business community's successes through the annual Safety Council awards and ACES awards for business growth and development. We also have motivational speaker Scott Brown coming to pump you up and make you laugh.  Its not too late for reservations (individuals $15, reserved tables for 8 $250) so if you want to attend email jriddle@zmchamber.com or call 455-8282.  Also, here's more information on the event.

Chamber Board Endorses Issue 1

At its March meeting the Chamber Board of Directors voted to endorse passage of Issue 1 on the May ballot.  Issue 1 is the renewal of the Third Frontier initiative.  Created in 2002 with widespread and bipartisan support from public- and private-sector individuals and organizations across Ohio, Third Frontier is designed to establish Ohio as a global innovation leader and fuel economic growth and job creation in our state.  Third Frontier provides state investment to promising industries, technologies and entrepreneurs.  The bond funding mechanism on the ballot for Third Frontier, approved by Ohio voters in 2005, expires in 2012. Voter approval of Issue 1 will extend funding of this highly successful program through 2016, at a level of $700 million over four years.  For more information go to this website.

And the Survey Says...

Last month we conducted a survey of members asking you to tell us what you thought of President Obama's proposal to offer a $5,000 tax credit to businesses for hiring new workers.  Nearly 70% of you said you were not in favor of this plan.  For the complete results go to our website.
